Duties and responsibilities

Operations 

  • Oversee the department's operations by defining the vision, objectives and priorities while optimizing your team's skills; 
  • Demonstrate leadership to ensure that the team completes targeted priority projects; 
  • Standardize departmental procedures and ensure their application; 
  • Participate in the design and design review of our new products in DFMA to ensure the sustainability of design operations and that the product meets our internal manufacturing standards; 
  • Contribute to the analysis of quality problems, production issues, requests for new products or product improvements, in order to guide the department's initiatives; 
  • Analyze strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities to improve departmental and divisional efficiency through key performance indicators (KPIs); 
  • Facilitate communication between the R&D team and production so that product changes and new products are designed and integrated optimally; 
  • Implement monitoring and reporting mechanisms for ongoing projects;  
  • Actively participate in strategic manufacturing planning and the implementation of new 
  • technologies or production equipment; 
  • Supervise the management of configurable products; 
  • Supervise the management of special products outside our product catalog;  
  • Supervise, coach, motivate, listen and optimize performance: 
    • production engineering project manager to ensure that changes to existing products and new products are optimally integrated into production; 
    • production technical support to optimize the production process and oversee the implementation of corrective actions in the event of production problems; 
    • the drafting team, to ensure that manufacturing drawings for existing equipment are kept up to date, and that drawings for new equipment from R&D are adapted to our production standards; 
    • the workshop team (toolmakers) to ensure the creation and smooth running of tooling, and to respond to urgent technical requests from production; 
    • the technical writer and methods technician to ensure that products are manufactured to optimized, well-documented standards; 
  • Act as a leader and mentor, ensuring that skills, tools and processes evolve to meet the division's short- and long-term objectives. 

Human resources 

  • Ensure the optimal composition of the team with the skills required to carry out the Engineering Department's missions; 
  • Improve and support the integration and training of new employees in order to respect and maintain a common standard; 
  • Actively participate in the hiring, evaluation and development of team members. 
  • Maintain a high level of mobilization and collaboration within the department.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills;

  • Experience in mechanical project management; 
  • Superior ability to work under pressure and at an accelerated pace; 
  • Strong planning skills and ability to complete several projects simultaneously; 
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) tools and software (Solidworks); 
  • Mastery of the JIRA management tool (Asset); 
  • Experience in product development (Asset); 
  • Solid knowledge of ERP, PLM, PDM systems; 
  • Solid experience in mechanical product manufacturing, mainly in sheet metal, bar and tube processing; 

Qualifications

  • 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, including at least 5 in technical or engineering team management; 
  • Experience in personnel supervision;  
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (asset);
